Ethical Sourcing & Sustainability

Tiffany & Co. is committed to obtaining precious metals and gemstones and crafting our jewelry in ways that are socially and environmentally responsible. As long-time leaders in the jewelry industry, we work to advance rigorous responsible mining standards and contribute to the well-being of the communities in which we operate.

Tiffany & Co. is a leader in working toward a more responsible jewelry industry.

Tiffany first spoke out when we opposed the development of a gold mine that threatened Yellowstone National Park.

We led the effort to seek United States Congressional approval of U.S. participation in the Kimberley Process.

We continue to raise our voice and harness the power of the Tiffany brand to encourage meaningful change, whether it’s preserving pristine landscapes or protecting human rights.

Our stones come primarily from mines in Australia, Botswana, Canada, Namibia, Russia and Sierra Leone. Further, we cut and polish the vast majority of these diamonds in our own facilities around the world to maintain the highest quality standards.

Beyond the Kimberley Process

Tiffany diamonds are mined only in those countries that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. We continue to go above and beyond to advocate for stronger and more responsible global mining standards to ensure that human rights are protected.

Diamond mining, cutting and polishing should be important engines of social development and economic growth. We believe in investing in local manufacturing, paying a living wage and transferring both craft and management skills to our workforce.

Responsible Mining

Tiffany believes that traceability is key to ensuring that mines are operated in environmentally and socially responsible ways. We have established our own rigorous standards for responsible mining that guide our decisions about which mines we directly source from. In many cases the output of these mines is delivered straight to Tiffany’s own jewelry manufacturing and diamond cutting and polishing facilities.
