It is from nature that Tiffany & Co. draws the raw materials and inspiration that
have shaped the company’s design heritage. The mission of the Foundation’s
Environment Program is to support organizations dedicated to the conservation
of natural resources in the areas of responsible mining, coral reef conservation
and land protection. The Foundation seeks to accomplish this goal both domestically
and internationally by supporting the following areas.
RESPONSIBLE MINING
The Foundation believes that the manner in which precious metals and minerals
are sourced is of utmost importance. At both the large and small-scale (artisanal)
levels, the Foundation pursues the following strategies:
- Increasing awareness of the need for responsibly sourced metals and minerals
- Promoting the development standards for responsible mining
- Research
- Remediation efforts
- Social and economic development
CORAL REEF CONSERVATION
The Foundation values healthy oceans and the important role that coral reefs play
in this ecosystem. Tiffany & Co. does not sell coral and the Foundation supports
coral reef conservation through:
- Research
- Communications-based outreach
- Education
- Consumer awareness
- Combating natural destruction
URBAN PARKS AND LAND PROTECTION
The Foundation supports the geographic areas in which Tiffany has a presence
through land conservation strategies that foster urban recreational development
through capacity-building initiatives such as:
- Strategic design improvement
- Beautification
- Enhancing visitor experience
Tiffany & Co. holds a strong belief that good design is good business. The Foundation
shows a special appreciation for, and commitment to, advancing the arts by supporting
the critically important work of educational, artistic and cultural institutions dedicated
to excellence in decorative arts design.
EXHIBITIONS AND CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS
The Foundation supports organizations that preserve the historic and cultural legacy
of the arts as well as exhibitions that focus on the decorative arts, particularly jewelry
and silver. To this end, the Foundation practices the following approaches:
- Jewelry and silver exhibitions and galleries
- Preservation
- Research and publications
EDUCATION
The Foundation awards grants to institutions providing talented artisans with the
necessary instruction to become skilled professionals in jewelry and metalsmithing,
including undergraduate and graduate educational programs dedicated to jewelry
and silver design. The Foundation also supports academic scholarship of American
jewelry at the graduate and post-graduate levels and bringing this study to the
international level. We accomplish these goals through:
- Curatorial internships
- Educational scholarships
- Artistic scholarships
- Lecture series
