Tiffany & Co. Inside The New Fragrance

A contemporary take on traditional haute perfumery, the new Tiffany fragrance is a light, sparkling floral musk for the modern woman. Look behind the scenes at the inspiration for this bold and bright scent with world-renowned master perfumer Daniela Andrier of Givaudan.

What is the inspiration behind the new signature Tiffany Eau de Parfum?

Daniela Andrier

There is something romantic in the brand. I chose the parts that I am the most touched by—the romantic, the joyful, the promise and also the elegance of Tiffany. It’s also influenced by New York.

What type of woman do you envision wearing the fragrance?

I often get asked this question when I create a fragrance: who is the woman I imagine wearing it? I really try to translate what I conceive from the brand so that the woman who would then smell the scent will recognize what she likes in that universe. I consider myself someone who has the alphabet of smell so I can translate the universe into a perfume. If I had a precise vision of a woman wearing the Tiffany Eau de Parfum, it would be the movie character Holly Golightly. That’s a really beautiful and iconic image of Tiffany. Her elegance is so timeless and when I see Tiffany I imagine that very graceful woman.

It’s also about the jewelry, and the joy of giving and of receiving. That’s something very magical for me. I am personally a jewel lover. I am obsessed with jewelry, so to make a fragrance for such an iconic house of jewelry is something that is very personal. I just adore colorful stones and diamonds. It’s something so precious that’s passed from one generation to the next. There is a lot of joy in jewelry, something that stays and stays forever. This fragrance is for all the women who love jewelry.

How would you describe this sparkling floral musk scent?

It’s very floral with a chypre dry down coming from the patchouli and musky notes, giving it something almost silky. What I really had in mind when I was working on it was to make something that is always beautiful, in every part of its evolution, something that has a beautiful light to it—like a beautiful stone that you wear. This fragrance is something that will always complement the woman wearing it. Similar to when you wear a beautiful ring and it reflects the light. I tried to make the fragrance sparkling, elegant, feminine and romantic. The right balance of ingredients will always be something very radiant.

As Tiffany’s chosen master perfumer tasked with creating the house’s new signature—a bold statement of modern elegance—what was your process for selecting the most refined ingredients?

The process of creation is something so intuitive for me and to analyze it is almost impossible. This is my passion. Right at the beginning I imagine what will be the silhouette of the fragrance. So you create the first intention, and then you work on the proportions, but the silhouette is there from the start. It just comes to me and is not something I am aware of, which is the beauty of my work. It’s a feeling, it’s a fantasy, it’s a desire, it’s joy.

How did the iconic shade of Tiffany Blue spark your approach to creating the fragrance?

It was very present when I was working. The light blue is the color of the iconic box—an idea of joy and light and sparkle.
